The Third Dimension of Games

Exciting news. If you didn't know already, Nintendo has announced the Nintendo 3DS at E3 2010. Utilizing two top screens, one behind the other, it achieves real 3D graphics, and you don't need special glasses. The top screen is 3D, however, the touch screen on the bottom isn't. It also features an analog slider above the plus pad. You can also adjust the 3D and turn it off, (Children under six years should play only in 2D mode, according to Nintendo.) with the slider on the right side of the system. Also, a very welcome feature, there's a Home button. Pressing it will pause the game you're playing automatically and return you to the home menu. So you can be playing a game go online for a walkthrough for the level, find it on the returning feature from the DSi, and then return to the game where you left off. Starting out, there will be an Aqua Blue version and a Cosmo Black version. Everything comes with a price though. This one's 250 dollars. However, it comes with some built in games. It has great graphics. Way better than the DSi. There is a 3D camera. It also has better sound recorders. You can also take a picture of your face, and the AI will turn it into a Mii that looks a lot like you. With Face Raiders, take a picture of your face and it will turn you into bad guys in a 3D shooter. The 3DS comes with six augmented reality cards. Y, ou can play a game with them that plays out on your own tabletop! The 3DS acts as a pedometer. While walking, you earn Play Coins, which you can spend in some games. There is also an online Virtual Console for Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advanced games. (They are not 3D though.) It's also easier to connect to the Internet and other players now with SpotPass and StreetPass.

Once you boil it down though, all that matters is the games. Some of the launch window games include Steel Diver, Asphalt 3D, Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars, Ridge Racer 3D, Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars, Pilotwings Resort, Rayman 3D, Combat of Giants: Dinosaurs 3D, Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 3D, Driver Renegade, James Noir's Hollywood Crimes, Super Monkey Ball 3D, Dream trigger 3D, nintendogs+cats, Rabbids Travel in Time, The Sims 3, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell 3D, Bust-a-Move Universe, Madden NFL Football, and Dead or Alive Dimensions. More games are coming after the spring, too! They should cost around 40 dollars each. The wait for the 3DS's March 27th release is killing me, and hopefully I'll get it this month. Bye for now!

Reputable Reviews: Pop Island Paperfield

Reviewing: Pop Island Paperfield
Pop Island Paperfield was released on July 21, 2010. The game is one of the cheapest, cutest, funnest ways to have fun on DSiware. It has a new team, the Magic Shooters, who weren't in the first Pop Island. It has standard Capture the Flag, and a variation. For those who are new to PI, the variation works like this. There are flags that respawn at different points. Those are neutral flags. You have to go out to get the flags and bring them back to base while avoiding enemies, all while playing as a super cute animal or vehicle. The game has six levels, all named after moons, that have replay value for, maybe, a month or two. The game has the best multiplayer in ages. It's not Pay & Play, you don't even need to DSis. Any DS can pick up the multiplayer by using DS Download Play. It automatically unlocks everything, and up to eight can play. That's quite a lot of hyper cute animals brawling each other over flags. Pop Island is a good game in many different ways. I hoped this review helped!

Cool Classics: Metroid

Memories of: Metroid
Metroid on the NES was great. Metroid on the Virtual Console, might be even better. It has inovated controls, which still has the nostalgia of an NES controller, using two buttons, a plus pad, and start and select (or plus and minus in this case.) For those who don't know, Metroid is a game that has no levels, two mini bosses, and a final boss, Mother Brain. It focuses on exploration, and really lets you blaze your own trail around the deep and mysterious planet Zebes. You start out with only one weapon, the standard laser. It fires about three feet in front of you, and then stops. By thoroughly exploring the planet, you can get upgrades such as missiles, bombs, freeze rays, high-jump boots, longer shots, grapple beams, power bombs, screw attack, and more. Missiles and the ice beam play a huge part in Metroid. You need missiles to get through certain doors and defeat certain enemies, while you need the ice beam to defeat the metroids, in which the game is named after. The whole way you are warming up for the endlessly intense, excruciatingly hard battle with Mother Brain. So now, find your compass, and buy Metroid on the Virtual Console today.
